Les Hutins Sauvignon Barrique
A wine as a result of father-and-daughter complicity.
This story begins at the end of the 19th century in Dardagny, a town in the canton of Geneva, with a great-great-grandfather of Émilienne, the current chief conductor of Domaine Les Hutins.
In the beginning the activities of the estate were not only viticultural. There were also a cattle farm and agriculture activities, however, they were abandoned some time later.
At the time Gamay and Pinot Noir for red wine and Chasselas for white wine were the only grape varieties present in this region.
In 1976 the estate expanded and reached 19 hectares. That same year Pierre Hutin took over the reins of his father's estate in association with his brother Jules. The harvest was then kept in the estate’s wineries. The part of its production was sold directly in bottles, while the rest was reserved for trading.
The revival of the estate by the younger generation marked the beginning of a new era: from the construction of a new cellar to introduction of new grape varieties such as Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon for the first time in a French-speaking region of Switzerland. Recently other new grape varieties have been planted such as Pinot Blanc, Viogner, Syrah, Merlot or Savagnin blanc, for example. Today there are 16 different grape varieties that constitute the estate.
Since 2008 Domaine Les Hutins is guided by Emilienne, graduated from School of Changins, who represents the fifth generation of Hutin at the head of the estate.
Her father Jean, still present to support her, played a major role during Geneva wine revolution of the 1980s. He chose to favor quality by fighting for the limitation of yields. This new approach has resulted in wines being more and more appreciated and recognized.
Émilienne reveals her talent and Jean, always enthusiastic, brings his experience and his precious knowledge. Passionate and patient, they are looking for the quintessence. Their work is largely rewarded by an ever-growing reputation, award-winning wines and the integration of the estate into the prestigious "Memory of Swiss wines" association.
Today the harvest of the 19 hectares, classified in Premier Cru AOC Dardagny and AOC Geneva, is fully vinified, bottled and sold at the estate. In parallel, 2.5 hectares of vineyards have been converted according to the principles of biodynamic cultivation for about ten years for observation and agronomic interest. This family signs its wines and proudly defends the philosophy of the winemaker and wine-grower: "the man by whom the terroir becomes wine".
Les Hutins Sauvignon Barrel 1er Cru: to the eye, it offers a limpid, golden dress. On the nose, the notes of exotic fruits, characteristic of this grape variety, are enhanced by the wine having been aged in barrels. It makes this wine more round with delicate woody notes. On the palate, a lot of sweetness leading into very fruity aromas finishes with a fresh touch.
