The result of the combination of traditional know-how and modern manufacturing techniques acquired and passed down from generation to generation, Manopoulos creations come to life in the family factory, located in Thebes, Greece. The Manopoulos company has been creating high-end board games since 1972. From the very beginning of the company, the demands of style, materials and workmanship have been reflected in their creations.
This fabulous story began at an early age with Costas Manopoulos, the founder of the eponymous company. It was by watching his father, George Manopoulos, that Costas understood the importance of games in everyday life. Seeing his father work hard every day and then relax by playing backgammon with his friends, he felt that games took away all the stress and made his father happy. Costas realised that games were not only for children, but could also bring joy to adults and improve their lives.
At the age of 21, while studying at the University of Arts, Costas created his first bronze chess figures. This first chess board was a project for a young talent exhibition at the University of Athens. The impact that chess had on him was so strong that he decided to open a small shop in the center of Athens. He started selling handmade chess and backgammon sets.
Because of the quality and unique design of these creations, more and more gift shop owners were interested in distributing them. This demand led the young craftsman to open his own workshop.
After a decade of experience in the local gift and toy market, Costas Manopoulos was now ready to expand into new markets and opportunities. By participating in various trade fairs and exhibitions around the world, he opened his business to the international market and is now present in over 25 countries.
From the small workshop in Athens came the new Manopoulos factory in Thebes. It is the result of a long-term project of technological modernisation.
Despite the introduction of the most modern technologies, all Manopoulos creations are still handmade and tell a piece of this little story.
Natural wood gives this Poker Set a unique look, an incredible sense of touch and great durability. By its very nature, wood cannot be free of imperfections. The irregular grain and different colour shades are part of its characteristics and are proof of its authenticity. The various veneers are inserted under the body of the wood using the traditional technique of marquetry, an art that flourished in Europe in the 16th century.
The entire interior of the case is covered with velvet and structured to accommodate the 300 chips and 2 sets of playing cards.
