Founded in 2020 by two cousins and cigar enthusiasts, Emily Sahakian and Thierry Farah, the brand Chateau Diadem welcomed its very first line, entitled "CONVICTION". If this collection bears this name, it is not by chance. It echoes the path full of pitfalls that its creators had to cross to realize their dream, starting from nothing.
Indeed, "CONVICTION" was imagined during a totally singular context, during the confinement imposed following the Covid-19 pandemic. At the time when life and future seemed so uncertain, this upheaval became an impulse of determination, ambition and conviction for Emily and Thierry. As they confided to us, in the Art & Culture article of this Grauer Journal dedicated to Chateau Diadem, they absolutely supervise the whole process in the making of their cigars, from the choice of the blend to the design of the boxes. It is the culmination of a dream they have shared since their youth...
Less than a year after the creation of their brand, Emily and Thierry have opened the doors of their first "workshop" as they like to call it. Located in Navarette in Dominican Republic, this small factory welcomes 9 craftsmen as well as the chief of the Galera, who take care that the rolling of each cigar is impeccable. This organization in "small committee" ensures a total control on the quality of Chateau Diadem vitolas.
Concerning the packaging, "CONVICTION" shows the ambition and determination of the two cousins. Indeed, the "jungle" motif that adorns the box as well as the ring of the series, was entirely imagined and created by Emily, who, following Thierry's advice, took an online graphic design course to be able to obtain the perfect design on her own. This personalized and timeless design is thus completely to the effigy of its creators: dynamic, modern and colorful.
For this first collection, Emily and Thierry, after 1 month of discussion, agreed to elaborate 6 different modules: a Toro (52 x 152 mm), a Double Robusto (55 x 140 mm), a Robusto (50 x 127 mm), a Gordo (60 x 152 mm), a Belicoso (55 x 140 mm) as well as a Petit Belicoso (44 x 102 mm).
Today, we will be particularly interested in the Double Robusto (55 x 140 mm): "It is the vitola which expresses at best the flavours and the aromas which emerge from the blend", explains Thierry. It is a Dominican puro made from an Ecuadorian Habano 2000 wrapper, an Olor Dominican binder and a filler that contains 3 different varieties of seeds: Criollo Estelí from Nicaragua, Criollo 98 and Piloto Cubano from the Dominican Republic. It is the first series in the regular production of Chateau Diadem.
Once rolled, the cigar will rest for another 5 months, to obtain a perfect aging, completely devoid of ammonia. For Emily and Thierry, this cigar can be tasted like a good wine: the aromas which it releases depend on the sensitivity of its smoker, its environment and at which time and with whom it is shared. They seek to offer aficionados a multi-sensory experience that is totally unique to everyone, provoking memories.
The Double Robusto is dressed in a beautiful brown wrapper, smooth to the touch, it is simply perfect and its generous measurements make it majestic. It reveals, from the first puffs, beautiful notes of cocoa, chocolate of Nicaragua, the whole with a creamy profile generated by the Dominican tobacco.
One of the most important points for Emily and Thierry for the tasting of this cigar, was its capacity to evolve: "It is a cigar which surprises, which changes of character"! The more the tasting progresses and the more the cigar takes in intensity, the whole with an incredible roundness and greediness. The smoke production and the draw remain fantastic.
This Double Robusto is ideal for both beginners and experienced aficionados. Very versatile, it is a cigar that could be smoked regularly, to have absolutely in its humidor.
