Comtes de Champagne blanc de blancs is created exclusively from Chardonnay grapes harvested in the five villages classified as "Grands Crus" in the Côte des Blancs: Avize, Chouilly, Cramant, Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger. This exceptional terroir, stretching over a narrow 20-kilometre strip, is characterised by the presence of thousand-year-old chalk outcrops, making it a natural reservoir of water and heat. White grapes flourish in these soils, drawing out their mineral qualities, power, and aromatic finesse. Comtes de Champagne is made exclusively from "cuvée" grapes, guaranteeing absolute finesse. Of the wines selected for the final blend, 5% are aged for 4 months in new oak barrels, one-third of which are renewed each year, adding toasty notes that reinforce the wine's intrinsic characteristics.
After 10 years of slow maturation in the cellars, time has done its work, allowing this vintage to reveal itself with exceptional energy and ageing potential. Opening the 2012 vintage is a unique experience, both visually and in terms of taste. The champagne's colour is a magnificent golden with straw-yellow highlights, while its delicate, creamy, bewitching bubbles captivate the senses.
Its bouquet evokes a world of maturity and voluptuousness, with gourmet notes of gingerbread, liquorice and meringue. Comtes de Champagne subtly reveals delicate aromas of white-fleshed fruit such as vine peach, cherimoya, and mandarin peel, accompanied by light hints of pastry almond. On the palate, this wine reveals great mineral power, dense and rich, highlighting the iodised character of Chardonnays. Its generous palate is underpinned by a chalky structure that gives it charm and precision.
