La Galera cigars
Family legacy built on passion and determination.
Jochy Arnaldo Blanco III, known to all as "Jochy", is a key figure in the Dominican Republic’s tobacco industry. With many years’ experiences in growing top-quality tobacco and creating top-of-the-range blends, he has become one of the most successful producers in the world.
Coming from a line of tobacco growers, Jochy is heir to centuries-old traditions. His great-grandfather, Manuel Blanco Lozada, left Spain to settle in the Dominican Republic in the mid-1800s, starting a family legacy in tobacco growing. In 1925, his father, José Arnaldo Blanco II, founded Tabacalera Palma, becoming one of the country’s first cigar manufacturers. Jochy took over with passion and determination.
In 1995, Jochy moved the Tabacalera Palma factory to the Tamboril free trade zone, considered the cigar capital of the world, located on the outskirts of Santiago in the Dominican Republic. This strategic decision has enabled the company to get closer to tobacco growing and benefit from local expertise.
In addition to its plantations in Santiago, Jochy also grows tobacco in La Canela, Gurabo, Jacagua and Mao. His main crops are Criollo 98 and Piloto Cubano, which he takes care to grow in different regions of the country to obtain unique flavours in his tobaccos.
Jochy doesn’t see his work as just a business, but rather as a real passion. In his view, every process, from the quality of the soil to the tobacco leaves, is a matter of tradition. But what counts above all is the passion you put into what you do.
Jochy Blanco continues to push back the boundaries of the tobacco industry, combining tradition and innovation to offer unique taste experiences. His name is synonymous with quality and passion, making him a respected and admired icon in the world of cigars.
