Cohiba 55 Aniversario Edición Limitada 2021
An exclusive vitola celebrating the brand's 55th anniversary.
Born in 1966 under the impetus of Fidel Castro and his loyalist, Eduardo Rivera, the Cohiba brand was initially intended exclusively for heads of state as diplomatic gifts. However, the brand eventually grew and exported to become the flagship of Habanos as we know it today. As a result, Cohiba is one of the most prestigious cigar brands in the world and is coveted by the most demanding aficionados.
Because of its prestige, the Cohiba brand has been a pioneer in the launch of new programmes such as Edición Limitada, Reserva and Gran Reserva, among others.
It was therefore natural that on the occasion of its 55th anniversary, the brand should present a new limited edition vitola: the Cohiba 55 Aniversario Edición Limitada 2021.
The latter, presented in Cyprus by Habanos last May, has just arrived in Switzerland! The launch event was organised by Phoenicia Trading A.A., the exclusive distributor of Cuban cigars for Bahrain, Cyprus, Greece, Iraq, Ivory Coast, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malta, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates.
Due to the global pandemic we are experiencing, this event combined virtual and physical satellite events in Cuba and many countries in the Phoenicia distribution area.
The Cohiba 55 Aniversario is the first Edición Limitada of 2021 but also the eighth of the Cohiba brand. It is expected to be joined by the Bolívar Regentes and Hoyo de Monterrey Monterreyes No.4 presented at the same time at Habanos World Days in May 2021.
The Cohiba 55 Aniversario is a Victoria, a new vitola for both the brand and Habanos, topped with a pigtail and measuring 57 de cepo and 150mm long. Its measurements make it one of the thickest Cohibas we have seen so far, alongside the 1966 Majestuoso and Robustos Supremos. For the record, Cohiba had already marked the spirits 5 years ago for its 50th anniversary, with the Cohiba 50 Aniversario (Grandiosos - 60 x 178 mm). The latter is none other than the module with the largest cepo ever rolled in Cuba: 60!
To make this vitola, the cape and tripe leaves, from the Vuelta Abajo, were meticulously selected and then aged for a minimum of two years before being rolled in the "Totalmente a Mano" tradition.
The Cohiba 55 Aniversario is available in limited quantities and comes in an exclusive varnished wooden box containing 10 cigars. In contrast to the previous vitolas in the programme, the 55 Aniversario is dressed up with a foot band bearing the Cohiba 55th anniversary logo, in addition to the classic ring stamped "Edición Limitada 2021" and the brand's band.
