Diplomáticos Cancilleres

A new chapter for a classic Cuban brand

The arrival of the Diplomáticos Cancilleres marks a notable moment for one of Cuba’s most understated yet respected cigar marcas. Now available at the House of Grauer, this release represents the first new regular-production vitola added to the Diplomáticos portfolio in decades—an important development for a brand long defined almost exclusively by its iconic Diplomáticos No. 2.

Officially presented during a global Habanos event in Sofia, Bulgaria, in December 2025, the Cancilleres introduces a refined evolution within the Diplomáticos range. Its name, meaning “chancellors” in Spanish, evokes leadership, dignity, and diplomatic elegance—qualities that align closely with the cigar’s composed and balanced profile.

The Diplomáticos Cancilleres is rolled in the Centro Fino format (50 ring gauge × 130 mm), offering a medium-length tasting experience designed to balance accessibility with depth of flavour. This format is particularly noteworthy, as it has only been used previously for the Vegueros Centrofinos, making its introduction into the Diplomáticos line an uncommon and significant vitola expansion.

The cigars are presented in boxes of 25, designed in the brand’s signature pale yellow and red livery, reinforcing its traditional visual identity.

As with all Habanos cigars, the Diplomáticos Cancilleres is Totalmente a Mano con Tripa Larga—fully hand-rolled using long-filler tobacco exclusively from the Vuelta Abajo region in Pinar del Río, widely regarded as the most prestigious tobacco-growing area in Cuba.

This terroir is known for producing leaves with exceptional aromatic complexity and balance. The resulting blend is expected to deliver a creamy, mild-to-medium-bodied profile, with notes of cedar, soft spice, and gentle sweetness—hallmarks often associated with the Diplomáticos style.

Established in 1966, Diplomáticos was originally conceived as a companion brand to Montecristo, aimed primarily at the French market. It shares much of its blending philosophy and stylistic identity with Montecristo, while maintaining a more discreet positioning within the Habanos portfolio.

Production is based in Havana at the José Martí factory, historically linked with Montecristo manufacturing. Over the decades, Diplomáticos has retained a small but loyal following, appreciated for its smooth texture, toasted undertones.

With the introduction of the Cancilleres, Diplomáticos enters a new phase of relevance within the modern cigar landscape. As the first regular-production addition in many years, this vitola offers aficionados a rare opportunity to rediscover the brand through a fresh expression—one that respects its heritage while subtly modernising its range.
