The first regional edition rolled at the iconic El Laguito factory!
Great Britain has a new regional edition “La Reina” which is a Long Panetela. Jemma Freeman, General Manager of Hunters & Frankau that is an exclusive distributor of Cuban cigars in the United Kingdom, said to have chosen this vitola as it perfectly fits the context of a renewed interest in cigars with a small diameter by British aficionados.
La Reina is the second regional edition of El Rey del Mundo for Hunters & Frankau. The first was the Choix de L´Epoque (meaning “the Choice of the age” in French) in 2009, a Petit Edmundo (52 x 110mm), then dressed with "Exclusivo Reino Unido" ring.
The size chosen by El Rey del Mundo for this regional edition is Laguito No.1 (38 x 192 mm). It has become relatively rare because the new consumer trend is turning to shorter but thicker vitolas. In addition, Laguito No.1 is very difficult to roll. Only a handful of Torcedors are able to make it. What is more, they are all housed in the eponymic factory, El Laguito, which is a cradle of the Cohiba brand. This is the first time when a regional edition has the privilege to be produced at this former diplomatic villa.
Like all Laguitos No.1, La Reina has a "perilla", also called a pigtail.
Nowadays the only two brands having Laguito No.1 in their regular production are Cohiba with the Lanceros and Montecristo with the Montecristo Especial.
The production of La Reina is limited to only 3,500 boxes of 24 units as a tribute to Trinidad’s cigars arrangement. Each box is individually numbered and is intended exclusively for Great Britain.
