El Septimo The Gilgamesh Collection

The Gilgamesh collection is the latest addition to El Septimo's range and offers the brand's first 50 ring gage cigars: Sable Shamash and Aqua Anu. A third cigar completes this new collection, the King Sargon, whose band gage has been changed to 52. All three cigars are 150 mm long and end with a twisted foot forming a small knot, like a pig's tail on top of a cigar.

Like all the brand's other cigars, those of the Gilgamesh Collection are made from Costa Rican tobacco and rolled in the El Septimo factory located in Costa Rica.

A short review of the three cigars:

Let's start with the Sable Shamash. With a refined and rich outline, it offers a delicious blend of nougat, roasted almonds and black pepper. Intonations of marshmallow are preceded by hints of dried berries. A warm finish coats the palate with leather and hazelnut notes.

Let's continue with the Aqua Anu. Made from up to 10 year’s old tobacco, it is covered with a beautiful dark and oily Maduro wrapper. Its blend takes us on bold notes of gingerbread. The tasting then evolves towards bread crust, followed by leather and a creamy brown sugar blend. At the end, a light spicy note punctuates the light cream and cocoa, while remaining soft and velvety to the last centimetre.

And finally, let's finish with the King Sargon. Made from a full-bodied blend up to 6 years old, it offers a complex tasting from start to finish, shocking the taste buds with a blend of black and white pepper complemented by intense chilli notes. It is definitely the strongest of the range. A balanced ash testifies of a nice construction.

This new line is named after King Gilgamesh, king of the city of Uruk where he is said to have reigned around 2650 BC. He is the main character of several epic tales, the most famous being the Epic of Gilgamesh, which was a great success in ancient times.

Representing one of the most ancient written stories, this collection offers a unique tasting experience, focusing on strength, flavour and aroma of each cigar.

About the brand:

Founded in 2005, the El Septimo brand was acquired in 2019 by the Younan Company. Initially, these cigars were only distributed in Europe. However, with this acquisition they redirected their focus and started to distribute worldwide, hence having the brand to play on a more global scale. El Septimo was born out of a desire to counter the ever-increasing pressures on the tobacco industry, and more specifically targeting the cigar industry, as growing global demands forced the producers of major cigar brands to rise and speed up production, reduce quality control and sabotage the crop quality. The aim was therefore to produce top-of-the-range cigars with tobacco grown in climatic and geological optimal conditions, using the best production techniques with particular care for the attention to detail.

El Septimo represents the seventh day of creation when God rested and enjoyed his masterpiece, creating a unique experience that speaks for the zest of life and being in the present moment.

The El Septimo tobacco plantation is located in Costa Rica, close to the capital city of San José, in a mountain valley 3,000 metres above sea level. No intense cultivation techniques or chemical treatments are used and the plantation is irrigated exclusively with rainwater.

After being hand-harvested, the tobacco is blended and rolled “hecho a mano” using traditional Cuban techniques. The final touches are done in Switzerland, where the packaging and quality controls are carried out. The branding is inspired by the Art Deco movement, combining high quality materials with bold colours.

Today the brand offers around 40 different vitolas, which are grouped into 5 different collections: The Diamond Collection consists of 15 year old cigars; The Luxus Collection offers 11 types of 10 year old cigars and The Alexandra Collection, launched in 2019, especially targeted to the female market, with tobacco aged for 10 years; The Travel Time Collection which pays homage to some of the most famous cities in the world, with 7 year old cigars and finally The Gilgamesh Collection, which offers the brand's first 50 ring gage cigars with tobacco aged up to 10 years.
