Hoyo de Monterrey Primaveras 18

On 12 February 2021, on the occasion of the Chinese New Year, China will begin the Year of the Ox. Thus, Habanos celebrates the event, as it did the previous year, with an exclusive cigar, produced in a limited edition. The latter takes over from the Romeo y Julieta Maravillas 8, released last year on the occasion of the Year of the Rat.

Launched through Pacific Cigar Co. and Infifon HK Ltd., Habanos' distributors in Asia, the new limited edition is presented in a specially designed box. Covered in red lacquer, a colour symbolising luck and happiness in Chinese culture, it features a stylised gold-coloured engraving representing an ox, gold symbolising wealth. The latter is moreover repeated on the second cigar band.

The vitola chosen by Hoyo de Monterrey for this limited edition is the Hermosos No.1 (48 x 167 mm), a module that until now has only been used for special productions. More commonly known as the Grand Corona, the module was first introduced in 2003 with the eponymous Romeo y Julieta as Edición Limitada. Since then, the vitola has been taken over by San Cristóbal de la Habana for the Mercaderes (La Casa del Habano Exclusivo) and Montecristo for the Dantés of 2016, also as Edición Limitada.

Only 8,888 pieces have been produced, 8 being the lucky number for the Chinese, each box contains 18 Habanos rolled "Totalmente a Mano con Tripa Larga" after a careful selection of wrapper, binder and filler leaves from the Vuelta Abajo region.

Romeo y Julieta and then Hoyo de Monterrey, each new cycle of the Chinese zodiac seems to become an opportunity for Habanos to underpin this new commemorative series of Chinese New Year. So what brand will be chosen to celebrate the Year of the Tiger? Answer in 2022...
