To celebrate the 90th anniversary of one of Cuba’s most iconic cigar brands, Habanos S.A. released the Montecristo Elba Edición Limitada 2025 — a commemorative release that pays tribute to the enduring legacy of Montecristo, founded in 1935 at the H. Upmann factory and inspired by Alexandre Dumas’ legendary novel "The Count of Montecristo".
The name Elba refers to the Italian island central to part of the novel’s story, reinforcing the literary identity that has shaped Montecristo’s character for nearly a century. Presented during the opening of the Festival del Habano XXV, this new release immediately established itself as one of the most anticipated Cuban cigars of the year.
The Montecristo Elba introduces a completely new vitola to the Cuban cigar portfolio: Encantos. Measuring 146 mm in length with a 54 ring gauge, this elegant and contemporary format has never before appeared within the Habanos universe, making the Elba particularly significant for collectors and enthusiasts of rare Cuban vitolas.
As part of the prestigious Edición Limitada series, the Montecristo Elba is rolled exclusively with carefully selected tobaccos from the renowned Vuelta Abajo region in Pinar del Río. In keeping with Edición Limitada tradition, the wrapper, binder, and filler leaves have all undergone a minimum of two years of aging, enhancing complexity, smoothness, and aromatic depth.
The cigar is adorned with three distinct bands: the classic Montecristo band, the black-and-gold Edición Limitada 2025 secondary band, and an exclusive commemorative 90th Anniversary band celebrating Montecristo’s remarkable milestone. The first release arrives in highly collectible numbered “Premier” boxes containing five cigars, limited to just 10,000 boxes worldwide, before standard boxes of 20 cigars become available.
The Montecristo Elba joins an already prestigious lineage as the 11th Edición Limitada in Montecristo’s history. In 2025, however, the Edición Limitada program becomes even more exclusive, as only two cigars have been selected for release: the Punch Princesas and the Montecristo Elba itself.
On the palate, the Elba promises the signature Montecristo character aficionados know and admire — rich cedar, roasted coffee, cocoa, and subtle spice — elevated through aged tobaccos and the generous dimensions of the Encantos vitola. The result is expected to be a refined, layered, and beautifully balanced smoking experience with exceptional depth and evolution.
