Founded in 1834 by Spanish immigrant Ignacio Larrañaga, Por Larrañaga quickly rose to prominence as one of the most popular Cuban cigar brands of the 19th century. Ignacio's journey began in 1825 when he traveled to Havana with the dream of becoming a cigar creator. His vision and dedication led to the creation of a brand that has stood the test of time, cherished for its rich flavors and impeccable craftsmanship.

The Por Larrañaga Leones is part of the prestigious Edición Regional program by Habanos S.A., which allows distributors worldwide to commission exclusive cigars for their regions. These cigars must come from brands not included in Habanos' "Global Brands" and must feature unique sizes not currently offered in their respective brands. Edición Regional cigars are distinguished by a secondary red and silver band that reads "Edición Regional", followed by the name of the represented region.

Appreciated by aficionados for its delicate aromatic profile, Por Larrañaga boasts a wide array of special cigars from the Regional Edition series, like Fuego del Cañón Andino B. P. E. (for Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador) also released in 2021, or Gran Robusto from 2017 made exclusively for the Netherlands.

Released in September 2023, the Por Larrañaga Leones is technically part of the 2021 class of Edición Regional cigars.

Each Leones cigar is "totally handmade with long-filler" leaves meticulously selected from the renowned Vuelta Abajo region.
