Habanos Presidencia cigar
A marvelous 109 XXL from a very exclusive production!
As we said in the previous Grauer Journal, "Cuba's best ambassador is a Cuban cigar." R. Roa Couri. Thus the cigar being a true national pride for the Cubans, it naturally became a diplomatic gift. It is in this context that one of the most beautiful villas in Havana, El Laguito, was transformed into a cigar factory under the impetus of Fidel Castro. Indeed, before becoming the flagship of the prestigious Cohiba brand, El Laguito was dedicated to the production of cigars for the diplomatic service of the Cuban government but also for the personal cigars of "El Líder máximo".
Located in the Cubanacán district of Havana, close by is the embassy district, El Laguito was built by an English industrialist specialising in the sugar trade, Casimiro Fowler Jiménez. Like many, he and his family fled the country after the Cuban Revolution, abandoning the residence.
From the outside, El Laguito is without doubt the most beautiful cigar factory in Havana and perhaps even in the world. The two-story villa is majestic and stands amidst tall, sturdy palm trees in a sumptuously landscaped lush park.
If it is one of the newest Habano factories, it is not the least traditional. In fact, its creation has involved long experience and generations of knowledge and expertise in the art of cigar rolling to produce the best Habanos.
Let's take an interest in the band that dresses this sumptuous vitola in the format "109 XXL" (54 x 178 mm). It bears the coat of arms of Cuba. The latter was created in 1849 by Miguel Teurbe Tolón y de la Guardia, a Cuban playwright, poet and also the originator of the Cuban flag. The upper part of the coat of arms represents a sea with two land points at its extremities and in the middle a solid gold key, these details are highlighted on the ring by the use of embossing. In the background we can see a rising sun whose rays are scattered in the sky. In the lower left part we can see a piece of the Cuban flag. The lower right side shows a landscape representing a valley with a royal palm tree in the center.
The coat of arms is topped with the inscription Republica de Cuba and underlined by the name of the cigar: Presidencia.
The whole is surrounded by a wreath of oak and laurel. The whole is surmounted by a Phrygian cap with a five-pointed star. The laurel wreath was also used to decorate the band, which is also embossed.
The Habanos Presidencia is a very exclusive cigar, which embodies the quintessence of the Cuban cigar! Rolled in El Laguito and intended for events in embassies, it is a testimony of the prestigious past of this factory which has become emblematic.
A rare cigar, full of symbols and Cuban know-how; this cigar should be enjoyed on a great occasion.
