La Gloria Cubana 500 Years Havana Humidor
An exclusive humidor as a symbol of Havana.
Founded in 1519 by the Spanish, the Cuban capital has just celebrated its 500th anniversary.
On this occasion, commemorating the half-millennium of lifetime, Intertabak AG, the official importer of Habanos in Switzerland has presented an exclusive humidor in a Swiss regional edition: La Gloria Cubana 500 Years Havana Humidor.
The humidor contains 5 boxes of 10 of La Gloria Cubana Orgullosos, the latest Swiss regional edition. Each box is housed in one of the five drawers of the humidor. These have a double meaning, representing at the same time the five centuries of existence of the Cuban capital and the sea. Indeed, the drawers, covered with a deep blue lacquer bringing out the white inserts, remind us of waves embraced by foam.
The center of the composition is a representation of the "Tower of Hope". This watchtower of the Castillo de la Real Fuerza de Cuba, the oldest stone fortress in Americas, is a part of UNESCO World Heritage Site program today.
This tower is governed by a bronze statue, La Giraldilla, which has become the oldest symbol of Havana, and can be found on the bottles of Havana Club rum. It is said that the sculptor Jerónimo Martínez Pínzon has created it in honour of Inés de Bobadilla, the first woman to govern the island. According to legend, she climbed the watchtower every day, looking at the horizon while waiting for her husband to return from his expedition to Florida.
Each of the 100 humidors is hand-made by the artisans of Humidores Habana in Cuba under the supervision of José Ernesto Aguilera. All of them are individually numbered and exclusively intended for the Swiss market.
