La Gloria Cubana Turquinos
A characteristic tasting of Cuban flavors.
Not very well known by the public, La Gloria Cubana is considered a real gem by experienced aficionados. Created in 1885, well before the Cuban Revolution, the brand interrupted its production before resuming it in 1965. Despite this, La Gloria Cubana has more than a century of history and has always attracted a circle of loyal enthusiasts, who traditionally are among the most demanding aficionados. Its name, which can be translated as "The Cuban Glory", clearly refers to its rich past.
This year, during the Festival del Habano 2023, the brand has welcomed a brand-new format in its portfolio: La Gloria Cubana Turquinos. This vitola has been used in the past by various Cuban cigar brands, including Hoyo de Monterrey with its famous Epicure Especial.
The chosen vitola is a Gordito, otherwise known as a Robusto Extra (50 x 141 mm). It is presented as a medium strength cigar, entirely hand-rolled in the Partagás factory. Its wrapper, binder and filler have been selected from the highest quality tobacco leaves of the famous Vuelta Abajo, in the province of Pinar del Río, Cuba.
Produced by Partagás, this new Habano benefits from the characteristic flavors of this iconic brand, while offering a fruitier and more floral alternative. It shows a careful construction, whose Maduro Claro wrapper is remarkably smooth. From the first puffs we are definitely in the presence of what one expects from a Cuban cigar: earth, leather and spice, balanced by a softer, fruitier aroma. Regarding the draw, it is excellent, as well as the combustion which remains perfectly circular.
The Turquinos comes in a box of 10 units and constitutes the second vitola to join the catalog of regular production of La Gloria Cubana, after the Medaille d'Or No.4 (32 x 152 mm). This cigar is dressed with the classic ring, stamped with the name and logo of the brand on a yellow background, surrounded by a golden border.
The incredible aromatic bouquet, the perfect construction and the quality of the tobacco leaves of La Gloria Cubana Turquinos make it a relatively pleasant cigar that offers a captivating tasting experience.
