The story of Massaya begins in the heart of the Bekaa Valley in Tanaïl, where, in the early 1970s, Michel Ghosn bought an estate in the countryside where his family spent the weekends.

Then in 1975, the civil war broke out, which ravaged the country, and they had to flee and abandon the estate in a hurry, only to return in 1990. Finally, it was here in 1992 that Sami and Ramzi Ghosn reclaimed their family's land and began to create a vineyard and a traditional distillery.

After producing arak (a wine brandy traditionally consumed and produced in the Fertile Crescent) that has made its reputation, it was however not until 1998, with the help of partners and advisors Dominique Hebrard from Bordeaux and the Brunier family from Châteauneuf-du-Pape, that the two brothers made their first wine.

The first bottles were inaugurated in 1998. It was an instant success, as the quality was so excellent. Then in July 2014, the Ghosn brothers celebrated the launch of their new winery located in Faqra, high up in the mountains, which allows them to grow white grapes and produce aged red wines at cooler temperatures than in the Beqaa Valley. Sami Ghosn's ambition has paid off and Domaine Massaya, which today is very well known in Lebanon, has now acquired an international reputation.
